The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words.

ASHEVILLE — Certainly, visitors to downtown Asheville are familiar with The Frog Bar and Sidewalk Café positioned at street level alongside the Haywood Park Hotel. Truly fortunate, however, are those that have also discovered their “underground” sister concept, The Flying Frog Café. Located below the upstairs bustle, enter the bar and descend the adjacent, inconspicuous staircase for a dining experience that will both surprise and delight.

The Flying Frog Café is the creation of the Shastri family and is now operated primarily by owner/chef Vijay Shastri. It is virtually impossible to define the restaurant by assigning it to any specific category.

Vijay’s mother contributed to her knowledge of Eastern European, Italian and French cuisine. Asheville’s German food aficionados have long sought out the Shastris to have their demands met. [For disclosure's sake, it should be known that yours truly is the resident bartender
downstairs at the Frog, - so come by and see me.]
